Multi-objective Planning Framework for Distributed Energy Resources

This framework has been developed as part of Work Package 2.1 to enable a multi criteria analysis of HDPS. It analyses the integration of Distributed Energy Resources in radial distribution grids under a multi-objective perspective. The analysis includes technical, environmental and economical criteria of DER integration; such as: DER installation cost, line losses, CO2 emissions, voltage quality indicators. The framework provides a novel analysis method for the integration of DER.

DER configurations are optimised using a multi-objective evolutionary algorithm (SPEA2). Each potential solution is analysed by means of stochastic simulation of load and DER profiles. Controllable units are simulated using an Optimal Power Flow formulation. The framework is implemented in Matlab, with input and output of information in Excel. A description of the framework is published in the following paper.

This work was developed in collaboration with the ELECTA division, part of the Department of electrical Engineering (ESAT) of the K.U. Leuven University (Leuven, Belgium).
